The
combination of a rich European heritage and the fresh vitality
of Australia
is embodied in the lifestyle of the Barossa. The Barossa
is Australia’s richest and most renowned viticultural
and winemaking region. Comprising the historic Barossa and
Eden Valley, it is located in scenic ranges one hour north
of the city of Adelide in South Australia. The Barossa has
un idyllic mediterranean climate, characterized by cool
wet winters and warm dry summers. Close proximity to Adelide
and the international airport makes the Barossa easily accessible
for all visitors. The Barossa is much more than Australia’s
best known wine region – it is a richly textured,
multi-layered cultural icon based on years of European tradition,
creative energy and community pride. The Barossa has its
own charm and the relaxed atmosphere; fantastic places where
to eat fine food, wineries, galleries and other attractions.
The early settlers soon realised that grape wines flourished
in the valley and they immediatly began to establish vineyards
with the first wines being made in the 1840’s. The
Hunter valley is the oldest wine region best known for its
Semillon and Shiraz. The wines were first planted here in
the 1820s and now there are over 90 wineries in the Lower
Hunter and around half a dozen in the Upper Hunter. The
area is 2 a hour drive north of Sydney; the magnificent
wineries and cellar doors have been united by shops, restaurants
and many attractions. Victoria wine region, Yarra Valley,
one hour from Melbourne, produce Chardonnay, Pinot noir
and Pinot Gris. Cool-climate wines are also found in the
Macedon Rangers area, which èroduces crisp, clear
and sparkling wines, a part from a excellent Pinot noir;
the Rutherglen region has Tokay and Muscat. Every wineries
offer free tastings of the wine and typical food. Other
valley to remember: Mudge, Riverina, Geelong, Victoria north-eastern,
Clare valley, Coonawarra Padthaway. Margaret river and Tasmania.
