HAMMAM
comes from the arab world “hamma” that means
“heat”. It’s the ideal place to meet,
to spend time, to cure yourself and the others. The main
goal is to purify the body and the mind.
The Hammam, wll-knomn like turkish bath, come from Middle
East, but the roots come from greek-roman world. At the
end of roman empire, the architecture of the old greek bath
and the roman thermal bath inspired the Turkish people,
though their baths were smaller and more modest. The Hammam
is a comfort zone and a social place. In Morocco, where
i spend few months, there is a Hammam in every quarter;
it’s a place where to socialize, to argue about the
quarter’s life and to spout about privite affairs.
The hygiene is a rule: ”Maintaining cleanliness and
protecting health as proclaimed by Koran texts and hadiths
of Mohammed S.A.V.S.”.
In the Hammam the women put the hennè on the hair
and the black soap on the skin, before rubbing the skin
with the glove or “kessa”; the folowing step
it’s the rinsing and the massage.
The marble decoration and the tadelakt walls of the Hammam
are very striking. |
